A beautiful half-hardy perennial, of sufiTuticose habit, evergreen, glabrous, covered with a blueish bloom. The stems are scandent, three feet high, triangular, occasionally furrowed, becoming woody at the base. The leaves are almost sessile, composed of a single pair of ovate, mucronate, coriaceous, rigid, seven-nerved leaflets, an inch and a half long, the margins cartilaginous; the younger ones sparingly hairy beneath. The stipules are rather larger than the leaflets, ovate, sagittate, mucronate, many-nerved, concave above, coriaceous, rigid. The tendrils are three or Ave inches long, semicylindrical, thickened towards the base, with five or seven subulate, spirally twisted ramifications. The peduncles are longer than the leaves, rig-id, bearing-six or seven flowers in a racemose manner, singly or in pairs, in the axils of short, membranous, caducous bracts. The calyx is campanulate, ventricose, glabrous, the three lower teeth lanceolate, acuminate, the upper ones ovate, acuminate.
