Not illustrated. 1910 Excerpt: ...the last few days, pain in the pelvis and abdomen and the tumor itself had been tender. General condition of the patient good; pulse 110, temperature 100. The tumor was situated in the right thigh, below Poupart's ligament, but a little higher than the usual location for a femoral hernia. It was tense, slightly discolored and fluctuated. No impulse on coughing. No change in size on pressure. Bimanual examination of the pelvis revealed nothing because of tenderness. Diagnosis, femoral hernia, perhaps strangulated. A transverse curved incision above Poupart's ligament revealed a hernial sac extending up under Poupart's ligament. The sac was thick, tense and filled with fluid of a sanguineous color and contained about one-third of the Fallopian tube. The tube was swollen and adherent to the sac, especially about its neck. Abdominal incision was made and the right ovary found cystic. The tube was removed and the ovary resected. The patient made an uneventful recovery. Late Accidents in Chloroform Anesthesia. H. Roulland (La Gyn., Jan., 1910) speaks of the bad results of administration of chloroform which occur from one to several days after its use. He has collected sixteen cases besides one personally observed by him. In these observations it is noticeable that the important alterations in organs affect the liver and kidneys. The author's case had a mild uterine infection, but the patient was in good general condition, and presented no signs of acute infection. It is probable in such cases it is the chloroform which plays the important part. It may be that there was a congenital weak condition of the liver, or that the chloroform furnished the possibility of reaction in an already diseased liver.
