Garden Calendar for March. Transplant hardy Lettuce, also Cabbage plants from winter beds, especially the large York. Fresh beds of Asparagus, Artichokes, Sea Kale and Rhubarb, and Strawberry set out, plant Peas, Potatoes, Onion Sets and early Corn, sow Cabbage, Carrots, Celery, Cucumbers, Beets, Egg Plant, Leek, Lettuce, Mustard, Melons in hotbeds. Okra, Parsnip, Pumpkin, Pepper, at the close of the month. Radish, Salsify, Spinach, Turnips and Tomatoes sow in warm situation. Farm Notes. There is nothing gained, as a rule, by starting in too early in the spring. It is better to wait until our heavy rains are over. If the ground can be plowed early, so as to admit of another plowing later, well and good. If not, plow when the land gets in good condition, and can be worked without packing it. Keep the young pigs growing through the spring and summer as much as possible; where there is plenty of milk for them, this is easy enough; and while there is scarcely any food that will quite take the place of milk, a little rye ground with corn, and wheat feed, mixed, forms an excellent food for them; clear corn is too heavy feed for young pigs. Everything should be done to secure seasonableness in planting and in doing everything on the farm, so as to have the advantage of the best growing part of the season, and of nothing being neglected. By promptness the crops are gotten in on time, and the farmer is ready to give them the necessary care as soon as they are up sufficiently to allow of cultivation. For the smaller seeds it is better to let the ground lay for eight or ten days after plowing to settle down somewhat, as by planting in freshly plowed ground, if a dry spell should come
