In Perhaps a Door, Elaine Jarvis draws together selected poems from each of her six previously published poetry books plus 10 early poems and 30 new poems. Jarvis is a mother, grandmother, teacher, writer, avid reader and a contemplative given to a life of prayer. She is a member of the Mennonite church but ecumenical in spirit. She is also a Benedictine oblate. Her poetry, often directly or indirectly addressed to God, deals with such issues as faith, depression, wounds, forgiveness, loss, the spiritual journey, dreams, inner work, and relationships. Her poetry is unapologetic in dealing with the nitty-gritty of difficult emotions and experiences, but tenacious in clinging to faith and prayer.
